Proteomic and morphological study of Perca fluviatilis spawn: How evaluating its reproductive performance ?

Gametes quality is one of the key-factor to ensure fish reproduction in particular oocytes that provide most of the molecular material necessary for the early embryogenesis. In a recent study, Castets et al. (2012) have defined 3 groups of spawn depending on their reproductive performance. In a second time, they researched proteomic and prefertilization morphological indicators related to the same spawn quality. It has shown that while spawn morphology is poorly indicative, proteins could constitute relevant markers of oocytes quality.
